Projects Yard Indoors Repairs Our Handyman Service
So much dirty laundry, so little time to wash it.
Laundry is probably a big problem in your home or rather a problem that persists no matter how hard you try to get control of it. First you have to collect the piles of clothes then sort the clothes then put the clothes in a basket and then haul them to the washer. A daunting task! We have three hampers in our home and yet the piles of “hidden” clothes remain to be found by me
This is the easiest method I have found to date.
I tell the children to collect all of their dirty laundry and make a BIG pile then I have them sort the clothes into the respective small piles of whites, darks, colors and sheets or towels. All in all about fifteen minutes worth of work for them and none for me, yet.
I then start a load and go on to do something more productive or fun. When the first load is done it goes into the dryer and a new load goes into the washer.
When the first load is dry I fold it and “basketize” it to be delivered upstairs where I separate it into each person’s clothes. After maybe three loads I tell the kids to get their clothes off our bed and put them away, neatly.
This continues for about half the day when the last load is dried and folded and put away.
Now mind you I have not been sitting around the whole time waiting for the clothes to dry but maybe vacuuming, washing dishes, running errands, napping ;-), making lunch, working on the computer or any number of tasks that need to get done on the weekend.
All in all, we spend about three hours actually doing laundry and the rest of the internal time doing other things including playing or watching a movie. This really gives us time to enjoy the weekend because I usually start this on Saturday morning and we are done by 2pm Saturday afternoon. This can be done by mom, dad, the maid ;-) or whoever is capable.
The alternative is to do a load or two every night after you get home from work or school. This is more difficult if you don’t create enough laundry to make a load but the energy savings are higher as most electric rates are lower in the evening when the demand for energy is lower.
I use this method when I know we are going to be busy or away for the weekend. I usually start around Wednesday and finish by Friday night. I hope you find this method effective and feel free to customize it in any way that fits your needs.
An even faster but less convenient method is the good old Laundromat. Yes the Laundromat. In here you can do all of your laundry at the same time and be done in less than two hours! The cost is comparable or less than having a washer and dryer in your home but the biggest drawback is the convenience factor. On a side note, they have bars connected to Laundromats in some areas so you can drink some suds and wash your duds at the same time. Wow!
