How to properly apply chemical agents that unclog drains

by James Phillips

I recently had a bad clog in my shower drain. I figured it was probably built up hair and that I would give one of those Draino-type chemicals a try. I read the directions and applied it slowly as recommended, and waited the proper time.
When I tried the drain out the second time, it was better, but only about half as good as it should be. I then realized that I had poured the chemicals in on one side of the drain only, and that they had probably dripped down, unclogging only half of the drain. I poured another bottle down the other side, and the drain was like new.

So even though the bottle doesn't mention it, always pour the chemical around all sides of the drain. This will save your from using more chemicals than are needed.
