How Not to Fix a Window

by Cheryl
(Tampa, Florida, USA)

The Broken Window

The Broken Window

This past summer, a hurricane traveled through my city and took out a few of the windows in my home. I am a handyman and knew I could fix these problems with my skills. As I climbed up my ladder to one of the broken windows I found that the glass was merely shattered. I thought the easiest way would be to break the glass in half. However, when I struck the glass it went everywhere, including my hands and legs. I quickly realized that I should have removed the glass in a single piece. After this experience, I will never mess with glass in the same way again.

Excellent Tip!

I wonder how many other people learned this the hard way!
It might be a good idea to gently put an "X" of masking tape over the glass too before you remove the whole thing. That might help keep it from further breakage.
