Closet organization! Wow, that's your closet? How do you find anything to wear in that thing? Let's clean it up.

Closet organization is something you need to do, let's face it. Most are more than likely the most cluttered places in any home.

Why is that you may ask? Hmm, let’s see now, they’re small, mostly unlit and have doors on them. They are perhaps the perfect place to hide your stuff. I am speaking mostly of the one in your bedroom in this page but any little hide-away place can be organized.

You can choose to do it yourself or hire a professional installer. Most home improvement centers have installers these days and they are quite affordable too. There are also some big closet organizer companies that sell sytems for every need no matter how large or small.

The choice is yours but remember that you can always do it yourself and save a ton of cash and maybe even upgrade to a better system with the money you saved. closet organization messy closet

On a lighter note , I have seen closets that they use in cartoons where when you open the door an avalanche of stuff tumbles out. I have also seen ones that look like ads for the organizer companies. Somewhere in between is good for most of us.

I'm thinking your closet is a nice, convenient place to put your stuff when you don't want to see it or for that matter others to see it, right?

I do that too when company's coming over and I just didn't have enough time to clean up the right way. Well let's gets over that scenario and move to one where your's will be the pride and joy of your home. Well maybe not but it will look better and make it easier to find your stuff. Now let's get to that closet organization project.

If you have a cartoon closet and would like to clean it up then here is my suggestion.

Measure the width and depth (width = side to side, depth = front to back). Now you can go online or to a home improvement store and get wire shelving or a pre built organizer that will fit your closet organization needs.

Ideally, you want to utilize as much of the space as possible so consider putting in two tiers of shelving, one low for pants and skirts and one high for shirts. If you have many dresses this may not work for you but you can always put in a single tier with only shelving above it for sweaters and such.

If you’re handy enough you can have half a closet for dresses and the other half a two tier system for pants and shirts.

Wire shelving is the most affordable system for closets when you do it yourself and the lowest cost if you have it done for you. Once you have the shelving installed replace your clothes in a “logical” order, i.e. work pants, dress pants, work shirts, dress shirts or pants, shirts, skirts, dresses, etc.

A great many of us keep clothes that we no longer wear but we just won’t get rid of them. I don't know why but we won't.

Here is a great idea on how to get rid of clothes that you no longer wear. First turn all of your hangers in one direction facing the door. Then as you wear these clothes and re-hang them after they’re cleaned, turn the hanger around to face the wall. Now after maybe three to six months you will know which clothes you haven’t worn and you can sell, donate or trash them. We would prefer that you donate them because so many people need clothes and cannot afford to buy them from retail outlets. Clean up and feel good about helping others all in one shot, and the donation is tax deductible. A nice bonus for you.

Closet organization kits are great for walk-ins because you can have hanging items, shelving, drawers and boxed areas for blankets, pillows, sweaters, etc. all in one. They look great too. The kits come in a wide variety of colors and configurations. If you have the space available you can eliminate a dresser in your bedroom because all of your clothes are in the closet. What a concept, huh!

Try to imagine what you could do with the space your dresser takes up. A nice settee and floor lamp so you can read that book before you go to bed.

I have to say that unless you're Imelda Marcos or Mariah Carey, most walk in closets have plenty of room for your shoes, clothes, blankets, stuff and even your sports equipment, if it's organized in the correct way.

So if you have a closet organization need, remember that you can take control of the situation and make that space very efficient and easy to use. Don't be worried if it doesn't take shape overnight, it takes some planning and time but in the end you will have a closet that is easy to find your stuff in and that, my friends, is the best part of organizing your closet.
