We all use bathroom light fixtures for shaving, putting on make up, making sure we got the spinach out of our teeth but have you ever noticed the difference when different styles of lights are used?
Ceiling lights used to be the only thing you'd find in bathroom lightting options. Well, consider a chandelier for a ceiling light. They aren't all designed just for entryways. Some smaller ones can add a touch of elegance and ambient lighting serving just to illuminate the room rather than act as a task light.
You do need some task lighting though and putting them on either side of your vanity mirror is the best way to light up your face without casting unflatering shadows. Mount them at about eye level.
Many fixtures are mounted over the mirror. While this may be necessary due to space limitations, they don't always show you in "the best light". If you do use these, try some that direct the light upwards.Don't forget that CFL bulbs can be used in most lighting fixtures now. See our pages on home energy efficiency.
Discount lighting fixtures are great to use in a bathroom. Save the pricier lights for table and entryway lighting.
